Our strength: connecting results

Make ecodesign a driver of performance.

Making a page lighter or simplifying navigation can reduce the resources used and make it easier to use. With appYplanet and appYuser, you track these effects together, through to the actions that matter to your organisation.

Your decisions are informed by RUM*: actual visits to your site, under your users’ conditions.

* RUM (Real User Monitoring): measurement of visitors’ actual experience on your site.

A method to support your decisions

16 impacts.
A more complete view.

Climate, water, resources, human health: the European PEF (Product Environmental Footprint) method covers several environmental dimensions through life cycle assessment, or LCA.

This multicriteria view helps identify major contributors and potential shifts in impact between categories.

Understand the PEF score

Impacts are calculated from usage data and environmental factors. Their interpretation takes the model’s scope and assumptions into account.

  • Real usage provides context

Traffic, browsing duration and the devices used provide information on how the service is actually used.

  • LCA broadens the scope

The calculation takes into account the life cycle of the equipment involved: manufacturing, distribution, use and end of life, within the modelled scope.

  • Indicators inform decisions

The aggregate score helps track a trend. The breakdown by impact and life cycle stage helps identify where the key issues lie.

One tag to start tracking your impacts.

A lightweight set-up that feeds your website’s usage data into the assessment.

  • Tag set-up in 5 min
  • Non-intrusive
  • Cookie-free
  • 100% of measurable traffic

Collecting data without cookies lets you observe more than just visits that have accepted analytics cookies.

Installation takes a few minutes when you have access to the site or its tag manager. Measurement covers visits on which the tag can run.

Key questions

Before you start.

What does appYplanet measure on my site?

appYplanet observes usage through its tag, then calculates the associated impacts using an environmental model. You can track results over time, examine their breakdown and distinguish total impact from impact per session.

Why track 16 environmental impacts?

PEF categories cover climate, resources, ecosystems and human health. This view lets you examine several consequences of an ecodesign decision and see whether an improvement in one indicator comes with a deterioration in another.

How can I verify progress after an optimisation?

Compare indicators before and after the change, using a consistent scope and method. Look at both impact per session and total impact. An increase in traffic can push up the total even when the impact of each session decreases.

How does this relate to digital experience and conversions?

By combining appYplanet with appYuser, you relate changes in impacts to changes in experience and the objectives you track. This helps you look for improvements that benefit both. Any increase in conversions depends on the context and must be checked after the changes.

Does the score replace an ecodesign approach?

The score provides an indicator to track progress within your approach. Design choices, the usefulness of features and your service requirements still need to be examined with your teams. Reporting on results includes the scope, period and method used.

Can I start with appYplanet on its own?

Yes. appYplanet can be activated on its own. You can then add appYuser for digital experience and conversions, or appYaccess for RGAA checks.
