Download the original interview (PDF, in French) 01 appYuser: As the founder of the Green IT collective and association, and the author of reference works on digital sobriety and ecodesign, you are very familiar with the environmental impacts of digital technology! What are the latest estimates of their scale and how they are changing? Frédéric Bordage Our latest studies show that, at every scale — global, European, French, or a company’s information system — digital technology accounts for between 40% and 50% of a European’s annual sustainable impact budget. In other words, 40–50% of the impacts that a European can generate in one year without exceeding planetary boundaries. For our use of digital technology to be sustainable, we need to reduce this proportion by a factor of 10! This is all the more pressing because the environmental impacts associated with digital technology are increasing faster than in other sectors. According to our studies, digital technology’s share of a European’s annual sustainable impact budget has risen from 20% in 2010 to 40–50%...

I trained as an environmental engineer. I have been based in Italy for a few years and recently joined TreCuori, which launched a service dedicated to the environment last July. TreCuori’s main activity is providing employee benefits services and programmes to around 1,300 clients throughout Italy. TreCuori enables companies to offer benefits in the form of an allowance that can be spent on services, most of which relate to wellbeing. The company was founded in 2013 under a status called Societa Benefit, which requires particular attention to impacts on the local area, both social and environmental, as well as support for the local economy and SMEs. 02 Can you tell us more about your environmental concerns around your business activities? We are really at the start of our “environmental journey”. A dedicated environmental department was set up less than a year ago. It currently consists of three people… The company is growing strongly: our workforce has almost doubled in a year. Our environmental impact will inevitably increase. We started with our main obligation: producing an annual report...

RIVP, the City of Paris property management organisation, is an innovative, socially responsible and ethical social housing provider that manages, builds and refurbishes homes, retail premises and offices, including start-up centres, incubators and business centres. 02 What led you to call on Quadran’s expertise? What challenge were you facing? We wanted to find tools and methods to help us respond more quickly and effectively in the event of a “performance” crisis, as we had had a difficult experience in 2016. 03 What practical solutions did Quadran provide? What results did you achieve? We deployed the appYuser monitoring solution across all our web applications, both internal and external. Every day, we and our subcontractors monitor changes in performance and in our users’ satisfaction. If performance deteriorates, we receive an alert and can identify the problems very quickly. The appYdex satisfaction indicator also enables us to communicate on a more factual basis with our subcontractors and gain a more accurate view of our users’ actual experience. This has enabled us to improve performance. 04 If you had to describe Quadran in three words, what would they be? Simple and effective implementation...
